President Trump Threatens To Call On Military To Stop Migrant Caravan

Honduran migrants heading to the United States hold up their hands as they arrive at the Casa del Migrante (Migrant's House) in Guatemala City

President Donald Trump threatened to send the military to close the southern border with Mexico if a migrant caravan of around 4,000 people does not turn around and return home. On Twitter, the president called out the leaders of Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador "for doing little to stop this large flow of people, INCLUDING MANY CRIMINALS, from entering Mexico to U.S.," and said they "have almost no control over their population."

Trump warned that he would consider "stopping all payments" to those three countries and asked Mexico to prevent the caravan from entering the country. Trump warned that if the caravan is allowed into Mexico, he would send the military to close our border with Mexico.

In response to the caravan, Mexico has sent 500 federal police officers to its border with Guatemala. Mexico promised that anybody in the caravan who had visas and official travel documents would be allowed to cross the border. Officials said that anybody who attempts to enter the country in an “irregular manner” would be detained and could be deported.
