Mandalay Bay Owners Sue Victims Of Las Vegas Mass Shooting

MGM Resorts International has filed a lawsuit in federal courts in Nevada and California against more than a thousand victims of last year's mass shooting on the Las Vegas Strip. The suit argues that the corporation has no liability and that all claims against the hotel giant must be dismissed.

MGM claims that they are protected from liability because their security contractor was certified by the Department of Homeland Security for “protecting against and responding to acts of mass injury and destruction.”

Robert Eglet, an attorney for some of the shooting victims, called the lawsuits "a blatant display of judge shopping."

“I’ve never seen a more outrageous thing, where they sue the victims in an effort to find a judge they like,” he told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “It’s just really sad that they would stoop to this level.”

MGM defended the lawsuits in a statement saying "years of drawn out litigation and hearings are not in the best interest of victims."

“The Federal Court is an appropriate venue for these cases and provides those affected with the opportunity for a timely resolution. Years of drawn out litigation and hearings are not in the best interest of victims, the community and those still healing.”
