Two Horses Rescued From Frigid Pennsylvania Lake

Two horses are recovering after being rescued from an icy Pennsylvania lake after escaping their enclosure on Saturday. Gunther and Wilhelm, two 1,500 pound Clydesdales, were discovered with their heads sticking out of the frigid water of Pine Grove Lake at Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm in Stroudsburgh, about 45 minutes north of Allentown. The two horses broke through the ice into ten feet of water about 100-yards from shore. Emergency responders used a boat to cut a rescue path through the ice, then secured ropes and bands around the horses to begin pulling them to shore. It took about an hour for the horses to be rescued. The animals were checked out by a veterinarian and are eating and drinking normally.
